SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 EHP1 - Express Installation-windows

The aim of this article is to show how to install SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 EHP1 as an express installation.

1.         Introduction
The Idea behind this document is to show consultants on installation of SAP NetWeaver Portal system. Many SAP Portal consultants are not aware of installation activities. Using this guide, it will help them to understand how actually installation of SAP NetWeaver Portal System is being done.
For installation, I have referred the latest version i.e. SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 EHP1 system. Used Oracle 11g Release2 for SAP NetWeaver Portal database and Windows Server 2008 R2 for operating system platform.
I Hope this will be informative to many consultants who wants to know how installation is to be done.

2.      Installing SAP files from SAP Service Market Place
           This step will guide which files are required to be download from SAP Service Market Place for SAP NetWeaver Portal system.

           2.1   Downloading SAP NetWeaver Portal EHP1 files
  Access the SAP Service Market Place to install required files using your S user ID.
  Download the SAP NetWeaver Portal EHP1 by navigating_
   https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/swdc -> Installations and Upgrades ->
   Browse our Download Catalog -> SAP NetWeaver and complementary products ->
   SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NetWeaver Portal EHP1 -> Installation & upgrades -> Windows -> Oracle ->
                         Note: Download the file in groups.

2.3   JCE File -
         JCE Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy files archive required during installation.
          Available versions: Currently, the available versions are:
Platform

SAP JVM 4 (via switch)
As Java 7.00
SAP JVM 4 (via switch)
As Java 7.0 EHP3

     JCE file depends upon JVM version. So refer this table and download JCE file from oracle site:

3. Hardware and Software Requirements

                        3.1  Hardware Requirement

4 Pre SAP Portal Installation & Checklist

            This section includes the preparation steps that has to be perform for the installation:


             4.1. Window Installation Checklist:
           
                     4.1.1  Disable the Windows Server 2008 (R2) firewall on each host:
To avoid any problems with non-configured TCP/IP ports that are used by the SAP system, you need to disable the           firewall on all Windows hosts before you install the SAP system. SAP recommends you to secure network access to the SAP application servers with a real physical firewall or to use a router Access Control List (ACL).

                      4.1.2 Perform basic preparations on Windows:
This section informs you about basic preparation steps that has to be perform before starting the installation of SAP system,which including the following things:
        •        Checking the Windows file system
        •        Checking the Windows domain structure (domain installation only)
        •        Windows Server 2008 R2: Ensuring Performance

                      4.1.3 Check that you have the required user authorization for running the installer.
The authorization required depends on whether you intend to perform a domain or local installation. If necessary, you have to ask the system administrator to grant the account the necessary authorization before you start the installation. If you attempt the installation with an account that does not have the required authorization, the installation aborts.
CAUTION: Do not use the user <sapsid>adm for the installation of the SAP system.

            4.2     Installing the Oracle 11g Database Software

                        4.2.1 Oracle Installation:
Before starting the SAP portal NetWeaver Portal 7.3 EHP1 Installation it is better to install Oracle 11g R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Installing oracle database it not a easy job. So it is better to follow Quick Installation Guide for error free installation.
For guidance please refer below link to install Oracle:

                        4.2.2 Post Installation Checklist
After installing Oracle 11g R2 on Windows Server 2008 platform, need to ensure some settings in operating system to ensure proper running of Oracle database.
                       1.   In Operating system RUN -> service.msc ensure Oracle Listener service is running
                       2.   Ensure Oracle bin folder is present in System Environment. If not present, assign the bin folder path from  Oracle inst.
                       3.   Check actual database running by using the commond sys as sysdba from SQLPlus.
     This will ensure Oracle database is running.

5.      Starting the Installer GUI Separately

          5.1   sapinst
          Select sapinst file for running the installation as per the database planned for SAP Portal 7.3 EHP1.

             Start with Application Server wtih Standard selection for Installation.

      5.3 Choose Option
    • Typical – For express installation
    • Custom

          5.4 Java Component NW731
          Select the Java Component Parameter Settings from the 51043228_JAVA_part1 file.

         5.5 Usage Type
          Select the SAP NetWeaver Usage Types for your application system.

          5.6 SID
          The SID will identity the system in complete SAP Server landscape.
          Secondly define the drive where system installed file will be located.

          5.7   Oracle Client
            As taken Database Oracle file type for Installation. But prior to this please install the Oracle 11 Release 2 setup on the server.

          5.8 Master password
Common password for all users that are created during the installation:
Operating system users (For example: <sapsid>adm, SAPService<sapsid>)
Java users : For example Administrator)
Press F1 for more help.

           5.9 SAP system Database system
            The <DBSID> identifies the database instance. The installer prompts you for the <DBSID> when you are installing the database  instance. The <DBSID> can be the same as the <SAPSID>.

                   Ensure parameters:
      • Oracle home
      • SAPDATA drives
      • Drives for redolog and archives (oraarch)

          5.13 UME Selection
The installer prompts to configure the UME during the input phase of the installation.
You can choose between the following options:
Use Java Database
If you choose this option, administrators can manage users and groups with the UME Web admin tool and SAP NetWeaver Administrator only.
For LDAP, use this configuration for the installation and change the configuration to LDAP after the installation
Use ABAP System
If you choose this option, administrators can manage users with the transaction SU01 on the external ABAP system, and, depending on the permissions of the communication user, also with the UME Web admin tool and SAP NetWeaver Administrator.

          5.14 JCE File
                  If you want to install usage type Adobe Document Services, make sure that you download the unlimited version of the JCE
                  Jurisdiction Policy Files  6 archive. For more information about where to download it, see SAP Note 1240081.

          5.16   Register SLD
          You can choose between the following options:
      • Register in existing central SLD
      • No SLD destination

                    The installer only prompts you for the parameters listed below in this table if you select this option.

6.      Post Installation
          Post-Installation Checklist helps to configure the configuration and settings to be done for application server instance.
          This will  help to ensure Standard and high-availability of the system [NetWeaver Portal 7.3 EHP1].
           
         6.1    You check whether you can log on to the application server
         Start a Web browser and enter the following URL:
          http://<hostname_of_Java EE_Engine_Server>:5<Instance_Number>00
         For example: http://saphost06:50400
        
          6.2    If you have installed enterprise portal, you check whether you can log on to the portal.

           6.3    Access to the NetWeaver Administrator
         The NetWeaver Administrator can only be accessed locally via
         http: EE_Engine_Server>:5<Instance_Number>00/nwa //<hostname_of_Java
         after the installation has finished.

          6.4    Install the SAP license.
         You must install a permanent SAP license. When you install your SAP system, a temporary license is automatically installed.
         Install the SAP license as described:
                     http://<hostname_of_Java EE_Engine_Server>:5<Instance_Number>00/nwa
         Configuration TAB ->Infrastructure-> Licences -> Install from File
         6.5    Perform a full system backup
          You must perform a full system backup, including the operating system disk, system state, and all other disks, after the configuration of your SAP system. If required, you can also perform a full system backup after the installation (recommended).

         6.6    Perform the Post configuration actions:
        • Integration of LDAP Directory services
        • SSO with SAP ERP system

  14. I believe you can use WIN 8.1 although I install it on WIN7.

    For you scenario: NW + developing Fiori app in Web IDE, notice that for fiori you need to have a SAP Gateway in your NW server. W/o Gateway you can't run Fiori apps.
