SAP PI Transports

This blog describes about SAP PI 7.3 Turn Over / Change Management Process (Transport Procedure):

• PI transports are done manually using File Transport System for both ESR and ID objects.
• Objects should be exported as compressed files(.tpz) on the local computer. These files are then imported into the target system.
• SLD Setup for the PI environments (DEV, QTY, PROD) needs to be done in both non-Production and Production SLD’s before the transports are created.
• The transport path for the business systems (Source and Target business Systems) need to be added in the SLD as below screenshot

Transports Scenario -  ESR Objects:

1. Use the menu Tools- Export Design Objects or by selecting the objects and then choose Export from the context menu.

2. The whole SWCV or Namespace can be exported. Optionally individual objects can also be exported (choose this option if the SWCV/Namespaces are already in the target system and you want to transport individual objects only).

3. The exported content as file can be saved in the local computer of the user (Download File to client) or a folder on the PI server

4. To delete objects that are in the target system, include the deleted objects from the source system:

If the server is chosen as the export option, the export file is saved at the following location on the PI server:

Export Path: I:\usr\sap\....................

File: Filename.tpz

5.    Copy these files to the target system if the Server location was chosen:

\usr\sap\..............................

6.     At the target system, use Tools – Import Design Objects to import the content.

  

Note: The SAP Integration content that is imported into the PI Dev system can also be imported into the QTY and Prod systems. This prevents creating transports between these systems.
However, the custom components need to be transported.

Transports Scenario - Directory Objects:

1. It is essential to have the transport path set up for the Business systems that are part of the transports in the SLD

2. Use the menu Tools- Export Design Objects or by selecting the objects and then choose Export from the  context menu.

3. The exported content as file can be saved in the local computer of the user (Download File to client) or a folder on the PI server

4. The whole Configuration scenario can be exported. Optionally individual objects can also be exported (choose this option if the other objects are already in the target system and you want to transport individual objects only).

5.  If the server is chosen as the export option, the export file is saved at the following location on the PI server: Export Path: I:\usr\sap\........

File: XI7_1_directory-objs.tpz

6.  Copy these files to the target system if the Server location was chosen:

:\usr\sap\.....................
